Shawn began his career as an entrepreneur in the digital space in 1998, founding a boutique web design and development group in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After having built large web initiatives for clients from Harvard University to Southern New England Telephone, he moved to Austin and received his MBA at The McCombs School of Business. While in school Shawn contributed to the development of consumer web in Austin in the earliest days of Pluck (acquired by OnDemand Media) and then by joining his classmates to develop uShip.
While at uShip Shawn led the Product Team for many years before taking over Global expansion. He established their European headquarters in Amsterdam and extended the platform’s reach to 18 countries across 5 continents.
Most recently Shawn founded OnFaith.co, an online community dedicated to empower people and organizations in the faith and spirituality ecosystem through technology. He studied Religion and Archaeology at Bowdoin College during which he spent time excavating in the Mediterranean, traveling to temple sites across South Asia and volunteering at Mother Teresa’s missions in Kolkata. This venture combines his two decades in the online space with his passion to create understanding between peoples of different world views and cultures.
Shawn is deeply committed to making Austin’s startup scene vibrant, collaborative and successful. In addition to having served on the Board of TeXchange, he is one of the founders of The Startup Games, an organization that started as a friendly rivalry between founders and CEOs of just a handful of Austin’s fastest growing and most collaborative startups has grown to a national movement inspiring startup communities across the country to focus on company culture and giving back to the community. Shawn is also an active investor in Austin based businesses in the hospitality, entertainment and consumer goods spaces.
